Whats your Exp with Epidural steroid injections?

Monday, September 12th, 2011

I got hit by a semi-truck back in December. Thanks to driving a Chevy avalanche; I walked away no broken bones, however I have horrible sciatica when ever im sit on anything soft.(which is almost everything) My Pain management doctor wants to do ESI and maybe even some micro surgery to relive pressure, remove debris.

Although I have tattoos all over my body, i have never enjoyed the thought of a needle entering my arachnoid space. Any one out their have any exp. with ESI….?

These are gonna be Low epidural steroid injections…like L5/S1. for constant sciatica..

I am also 26 years old, and I have already tried chiropractic care, massage therapy, physical therapy, and acupuncture…and still no relief…
I have also tried pain medication and being on pain medication is also not an option, since I am a medical professional and cannot be high (well it wouldnt be ethical) while at work.

When Should I Go to the Chiropractor?

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

I have had acute low back pain for the last 36 hours. I have been to the Urgent Care center immediteley after the injury and was in the ER about 12 hours ago. At both visits I was given a shot of Toradol which took away about 20% of the pain for two hours. I was sent home with Vicodin, Naprosyn and a Muscle Relaxer. I have taken all medications within their prescribed limits and recieved minimal releif. The sedative effect of the medication enabled me to sleep for 3 hours and I have woken up with intractable pain and am several hours away from any medication being due.

I need some releif. Is it okay to go to the chiropractor in this acute state or would he do more harm than good?

The idiot pain mgt. doctor told me 2day i had 8 new herniated cervical, thoracic, lumbar herniations,MEDS!?

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

hello, after 2yrs of being treated for a herniated L5, S1, i had been given 90mgs of percocet 6/15mg tabs daily. i started having outrageous symptoms of pain in my arms, legs etc. i asked for a boost in meds as it hurt like hell! the doc said well lets get an mri and see whats up? well, i did, and the mri has blown my mind as every cervical disc in my neck is herniated, c1,2, c3,4 c 5, 6, c7, c8, t1, l5, s1 etc the doc apologized for not believing me, but then when i told em i was in extreme pain he said im on enough meds? wtf! he then said he would talk to me soon on who to send me too surgery for, a laminectomy? and i would be possibly bed ridden for 6 mos? i think this guy is nuts! it took me 3 wks to get the mri results! this guy laughed and told me that i had better work hard for the next few yrs as i may be disabled? i thought what the hell! then he blew me off about medication as i need some longer acting opiate to know down this harsh pain man! i have a bs epidural injection next week and chiropractic care? epidurals have proven ineffective. this doctor has never once asked me how the meds are working? i thought they monitor your pain levels in pain mgt etc. this guy is 83yrs old, he doesnt even look at me, he just said oh well, just be happy your heart is not bad? i thought what the hell? i really have some decisions too make and my doc doesnt care if im dead, anyone have any med solutions or deg disc disease advice? i have herniations pushing on the thecal sac, compression, spurring, in 8 or 9 discs man. crazy! and my doctor is nuts!

anyone has experience with myelomalacia?

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

I just did MRI. The report shows that I have myelomalacia and spinal cord compression at c3-6. Xray shows that the posture of my neck is not normal, it curve inward instead of outward. So this explains the numbness and strain on my neck and arm which I have all my adult life. I did not recall any serious accidents. so, anyway, I had seen 3 doctors so far, started with neurologist, who referred me to an orthopedic surgeon and today I met a neuro surgeon, all three suggest there is no other options but surgery – fast. Now, I told them the pain is still bearable, I can walk, run, do anything now, I am not taking any medication. My biggest worry is that I end up quadriplegic after the surgery. The doctor said the chances is rare 1-2% but it happened. The neurosurgeon actually said that my case is bad and he had not come across anything like mine before. Any information or experience is much appreciated. I am also wondering whether chiropractic treatment can be considered or will it do more damage. The fluid surounding the spinal cord at c5-6-7 is basically none, so there is basically no protective layer present. I am 47 and I am considering to wait for another year and do another MRI and see how the problem progress. The thought of having a metal plate fusing all 3 vertebrae is excruciating – not to mention the pain. help!!

any opinion on chiropractor for a bad back/sciatica?

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

was hoping to get an opinion. herniated a disc 2 yrs ago. got sciatica as a result that progressively got worse to the pt where i needed surgery. have been pain free for a yr, but 2 wks ago, pulled my back again golfing. the back pain is gone, but i feel the all too familiar pinching sensation in the upper-left buttocks. no pain going down my leg yet, but this is how it started last time so would like to seek treatment as soon as possible. i tried medication, physical therapy, accupuncture & epideral injections last time to no avail so had to get surgery as a last resort. this time, i’m wondering if i should try chiropractic treatment as it was the only treatment i didn’t try last time. however, i’ve heard mix things about it both personally & online, so if anyone can share their experience or expertise as it relates to herniated discs & sciatica, i’d appreciate it.

What do Chiropractics do to me if i have pain in my lower back due to scoliosis?

Monday, October 4th, 2010

I’m getting rather worried about my spine because of the pain i experience on my lower back and sometimes, simply walking can be painful. I’m only 16 and I’m very worried it’ll get worse as i get older. I heard Chiropractics can effectively correct your spine without any medication or surgery. But its cost is also very high. May i know if anyone has had treatments by the chiropractics and who has the same situation as me? What do they do to you? And what are the estimated cost of a whole treatment? Also, will it fully correct your spine so it can become straight again?

Should I go ahead and get surgery on my spine?

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Hello,

I have been dealing with deterioration of my lumbar ( I think L4 and L5) discs for a good while now. It affects my walking and is extremely painful, as it also causes my sciatica. My orthopedic surgeon and I discussed a plan, with the last resort being surgery. I have tried everything- manual manipulation from a chiropractic, home exercises, physical therapy, herbal remedies, multiple Epidural steroid injections and have been on pain medication for a long time now.

Should I go ahead and proceed with the surgery? I am sick of being in pain all the time and never being able to participate in recreational activities. I am only 21 years old. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
