Has anyone tried a "upper cervical "specific" chiropractor to treat migraine headaches?

I have been suffering from migraine headaches for 17 years. I go to a regular chiropractor at least once a week and it works to relieve the pain once I already have a headache but it does not prevent me from getting a migraine. Now after years of going to the chiropractor the headaches and the neck pain seem to be coming more often. I have been reading about upper cervical specific chiropractors, it seems like this may be my answer but it is very expensive and my insurance does not cover the cost. Has anyone out there gone to one of these chiropractors for their migraine headaches? Or if you have any other advice on how I can get ride of these migrains let me know. I am not interested in taking perscriptions though, I have done it before and it works to releive the pain but I feel that it only masks the problem.

    I am a "regular" chiropractor and have had lots of success treating migraines. Upper Cervical specific docs do fine but they do not hold the secret to migraines anymore than I do. I would advise you to talk to your doctor about making sure that he is doing everything he can for you. We all get in ruts. I would make sure that he is treating the neck soft tissue and giving you extension exercises to perform. If he is then maybe you need a fresh perspective but it doesn’t have to be from an Upper Cervical guy

    We have treated 15 – 20 yrs cases.
    There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
    Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
    Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
    Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
    Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
    Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
    But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves’ juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.

    I am both a student of chiropractic and one who has benefitted from upper cervical specific chiropractic. What upper cervical chiropractic does is utilize specific analysis procedures to make specific adjustments usually to Atlas or Axis vertebrae (1st & 2nd neck vertebrae) which surround the brain stem (medulla oblongata). In this area is a large amount of vascular innervation and neurological functions (like respiration). Specific chiropractic correction to this area usually require only one inital adjustment , and weekly, then monthly checks once the area is stablized and maybe others later because with upper cervical chiropractic less is always better. Any DC that constantly adjusts upper cervical vertebra everytime you see them is not practicing upper cervical. The doctors that specialize in this are Blair chiropractors (www.blairchiropractic.com), NUCCA, Knee chest, grostic, atlas orthoganal. These specific techniques don’t ever claim to cure anything however, once proper connection is made at Atlas or axis many wonderful results have been documented as the body goes about the business of healing itself from the "above down and inside out". I have friends and classmates who once suffered from migraines sing the praises of upper cervical. Take care and investigate further.
